{"id":630,"date":"2008-08-14T17:42:32","date_gmt":"2008-08-14T22:42:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.toonesalive.com\/blog\/family\/?p=630"},"modified":"2008-08-26T22:22:33","modified_gmt":"2008-08-27T03:22:33","slug":"first-things-first-whats-cooking-tonight-skillet-orzo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.toonesalive.com\/blog\/family\/?p=630","title":{"rendered":"First things first&#8230; What&#8217;s Cooking tonight &#8211; Skillet Orzo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ok, I&#8217;m back on the blog \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 My dad left Monday, and my mom left today.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve moped around missing them most of the day today, and it&#8217;s time to get moving&#8230; starting with dinner.<\/p>\n<p>My friend, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.motherofpearls.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michele<\/a>, who we visited in Chicago 2 weeks ago (and I hope to post pictures tonight!!!), introduced me to orzo pasta, with a great recipe for <a href=\"http:\/\/find.myrecipes.com\/recipes\/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&amp;recipe_id=1119556\" target=\"_blank\">Mushroom Orzo<\/a>.\u00a0 Tonight I came up with my own version, using what was in the kitchen.\u00a0 Ta-Da!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skillet Orzo<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 T butter<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 yellow onion, diced<\/li>\n<li>2 cups orzo pasta (Trader Joe&#8217;s&#8230; you know my love for them&#8230; has a good, 2cup bag for 99cents)<\/li>\n<li>3 cups chicken broth<\/li>\n<li>2 cups leftover chicken<\/li>\n<li>1 cup parmesan cheese<\/li>\n<li>1 bag frozen broccoli<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Melt butter in skillet and saute onion until soft.\u00a0 Add pasta, and saute for a few minutes.\u00a0 Add chicken broth, and simmer for about 6 minutes.\u00a0 Add frozen broccoli, and simmer for 5 more minutes.\u00a0 Add chicken, and stir in parmesan cheese last.<\/p>\n<p>We haven&#8217;t eaten yet, but I&#8217;ve tasted it, and it was good!\u00a0 Enjoy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ok, I&#8217;m back on the blog \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 My dad left Monday, and my mom left today.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve moped around missing them most of the day today, and it&#8217;s time to get moving&#8230; starting with dinner.
